Barry Kerch, like Brent Smith, was one of the first members of Shinedown. He was born on August 7, 1976 and started playing drums at the age of 7. Barry took many lessons before recieving his first drum kit 2 years later. He said the first song that he practiced when he got his first drum set was "Number of the Beast" by Iron Maiden. Barry would continue to practice all throughout elementary, middle, high school, and college (UCF) until he landed the Shinedown gig in 2001.
